The class 5th student had been unwell for days with dysentery. But, due to water scarcity, her family needed her help and she made about five trips to the hand pump.

Yogita, who was from drought-hit Beed district, collapsed on her fifth journey to the water pump.

Beed, which is located in the Marathwada region, has been facing drought for three years in a row.

Water woes in Maharashtra are increasing as the water levels in dams across the state have reached a new low.

Also, several parts of India, including Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, are reeling under high temperatures and more than 110 people have succumbed due to sunstrokes.
