Weighing 6.8 Kg, The World’s Heaviest Baby Girl Has Been Born In Karnataka

A woman in Karnataka gave birth to the world’s heaviest baby girl on May 23. The weight of the baby is 6.8 kg.


The mother is a 19-year-old woman Nandini, who hails from Hassan. She is yet to name the girl.

Normally a baby doesn’t weigh around 6 kg till they are 6-months old.


Dr Venkatesh Raju, who is the local health officer in Hassan, said:

“In my 25 years of experience, I have never seen such a big baby. She is a miracle. I believe she is not only the heaviest baby born in India but the heaviest baby girl ever born in the world.”

Initially the doctors were concerned about the baby’s health as her mother Nandini weighs about 94 kg and is a diabetic.

But their concerns were soon put to rest as the baby turned out to be healthy and “does not have any health issues like irregular sugar levels or thyroid and was also breathing well”.

The baby was delivered by Dr Poornima Manu who said that the surgery to deliver the baby took nearly half-an-hour and that it was risk free.


She also termed the baby as being “really big and beautiful.”

The world’s heaviest baby was a boy and was born in 1955. At the time of birth the boy weighed 10.3 kg.
