Woman Had To Spend Night With Daughter’s Body Outside Hospital; She Was Denied Ambulance

In an another shameful incident for our country, a woman was denied an ambulance to carry her dead daughter’s body to her village, which was in another district.

The woman’s two-year-old daughter Gulnad was undergoing treatment at P L Sharma district hospital in Meerut for viral infection. After her condition deteriorated, doctors advised the mother Imrana to take her to Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College (LLRMC) Hospital also in Meerut. She was declared dead on arrival.

Imrana claimed that she had no choice but to spend an entire night outside the emergency wing of the hospital with her daughter’s body placed on her lap.

She wanted to return to Gauripur, her village, 50 km from Meerut, but the ambulance drivers in LLRMC allegedly refused to take her there.

She said that after pleading with the drivers for ‘two hours’, Imrana paid Rs 200 and brought her dead child back to the district hospital. There also she was allegedly denied ambulance.

After seeing her condition, some good Samaritans arranged a private ambulance.

Jagatraj Tripathi, district magistrate, Meerut, said, “This incident has not come to my notice yet. But I will order an investigation into it.Whoever is found guilty will be punished. I’ll ask the chief medical officer, the additional director that these type of incidents should not happen.”

Just few days back, a 12-year-old ailing boy from Kanpur died on his father’s shoulder as he was being carried from one department to another.
