The Pushkar fair is an international event that attracts tourists, faithful and traders from all over the country to this small town in Rajasthan. So when Ajmer Collector Dr Arushi Ajey Malik went for an inspection of the fair to see if everything was being organised properly, she was shocked to find the heritage walk area of the fair littered with garbage.
Without hesitation, Malik started picking up the garbage herself but was unable find a bin to throw them into.
Furious, the collector then asked her staff to fine those shopkeepers around the area who were responsible for turning the heritage walk area into a garbage site.
Malik herself reprimanded the errant shopkeepers and directed the EO to immediately conduct a clean-up drive.
Dainik Bhaskar reports
that the Collector has been taking up such cleaning drives almost on a regular basis. She has often been spotted taking part in cleanliness drives conducted in her administrative area.
In a meeting with her staff, Malik expressed her desire to see Pushkar as the cleanest city in the Ajmer district. To achieve this objective, she requested support from municipal councillors and people of the city. Malik is a qualified doctor. A 2006-batch civil service officer, she was first posted as Assistant Collector and District Magistrate of Alwar. This is her 10th posting.
