For 91-year-old Gunabai Jankar it was a proud moment as her son Mahadeo Jankar was also inducted in the cabinet.
While extremely happy about her son’s achievement, Gunabai was also stern and after blessing him said, “If he doesn’t perform well, then I shall thrash him…!”
The unexpected remark took everyone by surprise, as they guffawed and nodded in approval. The remark though left 49-year-old Jankar embarrassed and he quickly looked down.
Later on, Jankar assured everyone that he would work sincerely towards the uplifting the poor, downtrodden and marginalised sections of the society.
Jankar has come a long way since he was born in a scorching field in Wadhe village in Satara district. Jankar qualified as an engineer and at the age of 22 took a vow: “I will remain unmarried and will not make money or wealth for myself during my lifetime and shall strive for bringing political awareness and power to shepherds and equivalent deprived communities of India.”
