Two Youth Allegedly Killed By Army Firing In J&K; Army Regrets Loss

Two youth–Nayeem Ahmad and Muhammad Iqbal– died on April 12 in J&K’s Handwara area after Army allegedly open fired on villagers, who were protesting against a molestation bid by an Army man.

While one youth died on the spot, other succumbed to his injuries in the district hospital.

According to locals, army opened fire on the protesting villagers that left four youths injured.

They were demanding arrest of the Army man allegedly involved in the molestation.

Soon after, Army expressed deep regret over the loss of life.

In a statement, the spokesperson said, “Matter will be investigated and anybody found guilty will be dealt as per the law.”

However, IGP Police SJM Gillani  said that youth first burned the bunker after which army retaliated. He added:



Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik and Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have called for a shutdown tomorrow against the killings.
