The world of social media is an amazing one. This was originally conceived to bring the world together to create peace and harmony. However, lately, the social media has become a political battleground of ideologies and is being used create disturbances be it from the Left or the Right.

Micro-blogging site, Twitter’s CEO, Jack Dorsey has now announced that the site’s trademark “blue tick” has been broken after it verified the organizer of far-right rally in US.

This announcement came days after people started to criticize the social media platform for verifying the account of the organizer, Jasson Kessler, of the far right white supremacist rally in US which killed one.

A tweet from the Twitter Support mentioned that the blue tick was a way to authenticate identity and voice but was wrongly interpreted as an endorsement or an indicator of importance.

The Twitter CEO said:

“We should`ve communicated faster on this: our agents have been following our verification policy correctly, but we realised some time ago the system is broken and needs to be reconsidered. And we failed by not doing anything about it. Working now to fix faster.”

Although the social media platform has received heavy criticism for verifying the account of far-right rally organizer, the company seems to have been providing blue tick to far-left ideologies as well.

This tweet asks for the banning of all men. Note that both the users have blue ticks:

An online news site journalist who allegedly supports far-left also has a blue tick:

This account belongs to someone who taught children how to save themselves after creating a riot:

The hypocrisy is at its best. At one end, Twitter has gone at lengths explaining the reasons for the verification of far-right users while the company and public has remained tight lipped about the far-left Twitter users.
