increase internet speed
10. Switch your modem off and on:
First up, before you try anything else, you should check your modem. Switch the modem off and on once. Often, a simple restart of the modem can do the trick. You should wait to at least 3 to 4 seconds before you switch on the modem once again. You can also let the modem cool off for few minutes at a stretch if you think it’s overheated. Overheating can also cause slower net speed.
9. Check for multiple connections:
Check that multiple devices aren’t connected with the same modem. Consumption of the bandwidth by multiple devices can also slow down the speed. It is possible that your phone or tablet is using a big chunk of the bandwidth. If you do not need to stay online on these devices, you can just either turn off modem’s wireless connection or disable wireless connections on other devices.
8. Use Internet cable:
Try and use a cable instead to the Wi-Fi. At times, wireless connections can be weak and the cable can make the difference. Also, you should be using a small internet cable instead of a long one. The internet signal is often damped by the end it reaches the receiving computer or laptop if you’re on a wireless network or the internet cable is several meters long in length.
7. Use good antivirus software:
Virus or spyware in your device could be a primary reason behind slow internet speed. The virus affects the internet settings of your device and as a result causes problems in the browsing speed. It is therefore advisable to have certified antivirus software installed on your system/s. It is also very important to frequently update the antivirus so that it works properly and best protects your system from all kinds of viruses and spywares.

A web connected device often develops a collection of unnecessary files, without you even realizing. These unnecessarily accumulated files on your device also hamper your internet speed. It is therefore advisable to frequently delete all the unnecessary Temp files on the device. To do so you may download software like Tune-up Utilities or C-Cleaner.
5. Delete cookies and history:
Internet browsers can render graphics and text at a slow speed due to the excessive number of cookies it has downloaded. The long browsing history could also be the culprit. It is thus important to clean up the cookies and browsing history on a regular basis. It is one of the most important habits an internet user should develop to keep browsing the internet at an optimum speed.
4. Delete unnecessarily heavy programs:
There are some programs that consume more bandwidth than others. These heavy programs ultimately slow down the internet speed. These unnecessary bandwidth hogs often run in the background. So, it is important to search for all such programs running on the web connected device and delete them immediately. You may also check out more about the Processes tab under Task Manager for more information.
3. Disable unwanted add-ons:
We tend to add a lot of helpful add-ons to the browser, without realizing that these add-ons can affect the boot time of the browser. Therefore, to minimize the boot time of the Internet browser and to have a faster connection it is important to clean up most of the add-ons (keep only what is absolutely essential). Browser’s rendering speed can improve by a large measure if you get rid of all those add-ons or extensions.
2. Check your internet security:
Wi-Fi connection cannot only be slow at times, it can be easily stolen. Make sure your wireless connection is well secured by a strong password. Unauthorized users can use your connection in case it isn’t well protected. When something of the sort happens, there is a possibility of an underperforming internet connection. Therefore, it is important to frequently check the Wi-Fi connection and secure it.
1. Contact your internet service provider:
Almost 90 percent of the times the aforementioned tips should work for you. In other cases just check with your internet service provider to confirm the internet speed you should be getting on your connection. If you are not getting the dedicated speed, even when you have tried all the aforementioned steps and there is no problem on part of the ISP, then there is some problem with your system and you should consider formatting it.
