It is a derivative of many elements of rock, urban, dance and even country music. The amalgamated mix of many different styles into a form that has short songs, with catchy and simple lyrics is easily the most listened to music genre in the world.

Madonna is easily among the most popular female pop artists of all time. It was the title song for her second studio album and is one of the most popular pop songs that she has recorded. Like a virgin was released in November 1984 and it became an overnight international hit. She also embarked on an album promotion tour for the album with the same title.

Elton John is a well known artist all around the world. His pop song Sacrifice was released in October 1989 and is to date one of the biggest hits that he has had. This five minute ballad is not so much of a love song but more of a song that depicts the struggles of a single dad after he has fallout with his wife.

The Swedish pop group ABBA released their all time hit single Dancing Queen in 1976 and is still heard across record players and computers even today.
