Top 10 Hollywood movies that make you cry

Get hold of the the tissue box before you watch any of the movies on the “Top 10 movies that make you cry” list. There are some real tragic and Heartbreakers on the roll, although all of the movies were preferred to serve that purpose. No wonder everyone needs a good cry once in a while, so cozy up on the sofa and pick one of these movies for the night.

10. Alpha Dog:

This Hollywood movie made the top 10 list on the basis of one particular dreadful sad scene. Based on the real life story of James Hollywood, the FBI’s youngest chap on the Most Wanted List, this film is full of teen drama including drugs with murder. Justin Timberlake delivers the most painful lines in one of the ending scenes in the movie when he assures the boy who they abducted that he would never hurt him.

9. The Color Purple:

The movie, “The Color Purple” excels for its story as much as for the outstanding cast. There are so many sad moments, entwined through the lives of a set of black Americans which guarantees a box full of tissues while watching this movie. Sometimes I feel outraged watching it and at times I feel the quiet losses. In this highly acclaimed movie, you also get to witness the Oprah Winfrey’s movie performance.

8. A Walk to Remember:

Call me crazy, but ‘A Walk to Remember’ is definitely one Hollywood movie that will make anybody cry. Not too many Jamies (Mandy Moore) subsist who can systematically change the wasted Landons (Shane West) of this world to such a level. Next, all hell breaks loose when Landons find that Jamie has terminal leukemia and she can’t survive too long. He then takes it on himself to ensure that Jamie enjoys her last days as much as she can. Landon’s pain and his endeavors are really tearing-jerking. A beautiful plain film with great tracks from Switchfoot like “You” and ‘I Dare You To Move’, A Walk to Remember is simply one movie that is bound to make you cry.

7. Forest Gump:

Though this film is in the list of sad films, in many ways it is an inspirational film. Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) is a mentally challenged boy of the South who becomes friends with a girl named Jennie  Curran. The Hollywood movie takes audiences from Forrest’s early years to later ones, where misfortune and heartbreak leave their stain. One of the great Tom Hanks movie, Forrest Gump is full of touching lines by the lead character and the tears assembled in the eyes flows down by the end of the movie, when Forrest asks Jennie whether his son is smart or like him?

6. P.S. I Love You:

An emotional movie, it is based on the novel of the same name by Cecilia Ahern, “P.S. I Love You”. The movie stars Hillary Swank as Holly Kennedy and Gerard Butler as Gerry Kennedy. Gerry dies of brain tumor but leaves behind some letters to his wife, who is in melancholy following his death, to give her the much-needed support to move on. This Hollywood movie is not exactly sad, but the underlying message and Gerry’s desire to see his wife move on is quite touching.

5. Philadelphia:

Yet another brilliant movie with a commendable performance by Tom Hanks as a man stricken with AIDS. This Hollywood movie surely deserves on this list for the way that it sheds some brightness on the present day health crisis of the mortal sexually transmitted disease, AIDS. Tom Hanks and the entire cast adapted this movie in a such a brilliant way that public health alerts of the 1980′s could not.

4. The Notebook:

Undeniably, The Notebook is one of the best romantic films that will let out all the emotions in you. The wife is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and the husband is completely devoted and committed to her. He makes an effort to help her identify him by recalling the saga of their love story from the start to the end. The movie ends with both dying in each others arms. This one movie will surely bring tears even in the bravest of brave eyes.

This Hollywood movie is one of the best Holocaust films of all time. Steven Spielberg merged art and tragedy to create a film that leaves audiences thinking and crying at the same time. It exhibits the effort of Oscar Schindler to save as many Jews he could from the camps during World War II. A few scenes that really stand out in this beautiful movie are when the little girl in the red dress is revealed among the black and white filming, the concentration camp sequences and the communications that Oscar Schindler has with some of the Nazis.

2. Terms of Endearment:

Debra Winger gave an excellent show in this film. One of the most tear-producing scenes is when she has to face her young sons and elucidate that she is dying. The influential words of her youngest son stand out when he bawls that he hates her, with words soaked in agony and pain – making you sob helplessly.

The ultimate romantic tearjerker! Titanic is a tale of two lovers Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) who meet on the historic ship ‘Titanic’. They fall in love even as Rose is going to be engaged to Cal. And very soon as they fall in love, the gigantic ship goes on and hits that deadly iceberg which wrecks it. Rose survives but only to watch Jack, the love of her life drowns and freeze to death. The scene where Jack advises Rose to move on with her life is as emotional and romantic as a scene can get!
