This list of TopYaps includes top 10 famous presidents of America, best known for shaping the destiny of their country as well as making the term “United States” a synonym of power and progress. We’ve thoroughly reviewed and analysed each President’s historical influence and actions while in office.
10. Dwight David Eisenhower (1890 to 1969):
Born in Texas in 1890, this 34th President of United States was once the supreme commander of the allied forces in Europe during WW II. Eisenhower focused on establishing the world peace (despite the Korean conflict) and created an example of a non-partisan approach to politics. He will be remembered for declaring racial discrimination as a national security issue according to which Communists around the world were using racial discrimination in the U.S. as a point of propaganda attack.
9. James Madison (1751 to 1836):
Also known as the “Godfather of The Constitution”, this political philosopher was the 4th president of United States of America. A key figure in the formation of the Bill of Rights, Madison readily recognized that power leads to distrust, stating that “The truth is that all men having power ought to be mistrusted.” The main feature of Madison’s time in Congress was his work to restrain the power of the federal government.
8. John Fitzgerald Kennedy (1917 to 1963):
Popularity and performance are very different things, and most historians would argue that it is too soon to have a good historical perspective through which to analyze Kennedy’s performance as 35th President. Events during his administration such as the Bay of Pigs Invasion, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the building of the Berlin Wall, the Space Race, the African American Civil Rights Movement and early stages of the Vietnam War are sufficient to justify his position in this list.
7. Woodrow Wilson (1856 to 1924):
Wilson was admired as a writer, a scholar, and an educator more than two decades before he became the 28th president of United States of America. He spent twenty-four years working in the academic world as a professor, then as a college president, before he was elected governor of New Jersey. Wilson’s idealistic internationalism “Wilsonianism” which calls the United States to enter in the world to fight for democracy, has been a contentious position in American foreign policy.
6. Theodore Teddy Roosevelt (1858 to 1919):
Headed in the direction of genius at political leadership, he was the 26th president of America. He brought new excitement and power to the Presidency, as he vigorously led Congress and the American public toward progressive reforms and a strong foreign policy. His conservationism and willingness to take on big business are examples of why he is considered to be one of the influential presidents in America’s history.
5. Andrew Jackson (1767 to 1845):
Surrounded by myth and image, this 7th president of America is a compact symbol representing the ideology of an entire generation. Jackson exemplified the common man, the farmer politician, military prowess and democracy for his time. Nicknamed as “Old Hickory”, Jackson was famous for winning the Battle of New Orleans against the British and pretty much ending any Indian threat in the South.
4. Thomas Jefferson (1743 to 1826):
A coward is much more exposed to quarrels than a man of spirit. Jefferson was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence and the third president of the United States of America. As a political philosopher, Jefferson is the only president to serve two full terms in office without vetoing a single bill of Congress. Jefferson has been consistently ranked by scholars as one of the most famous presidents of America.
3. Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882 to 1945):
Crippled by polio, FDR was the 32nd president of the United States of America. Roosevelt launched major legislation and a profusion of executive orders that gave form to the New Deal—a complex, interlocking set of programs designed to produce relief (especially government jobs for the unemployed), recovery (of the economy), and reform (through regulation of Wall Street, banks and transportation).
2. George Washington (1732 to 1799):
A legend in classic sense, he was the first president of the United States and a major figure in the establishment of the US, during and following the Revolutionary War. He is known as one of the Founding Fathers of the country. As a President, Washington established the framework of the national executive branch. He oversaw the work to build a new national capital, and it was named Washington D.C. in his honor.
1. Abraham Lincoln (1809 to 1865):
Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any one thing. Serving as the 16th president of the United States, Lincoln carried out many vital endeavors. His greatest accomplishment, without a doubt, was the initiation of ‘Emancipation Proclamation’. Lincoln has consistently been ranked by scholars as one of the greatest of all U.S. Presidents.
