Celebrities are always loved and envied for their near perfect lives. People are drawn to them by their popularity and success. The truth is, they have problems too and sometimes things get so out of control that they surrender themselves to death. Celebrities have a long history of committing suicides under depression and several other individualistic circumstances, most notably in musicians and artists. 10. Peg Entwistle:
Peg Entwistle was a British actress who was born in 1908. Her mother died early when she was eight years old, her father remarried and moved to New York along with her. She always wanted to be a famous film actress and after listening to comments on her last movie “Thirteen Women”, she committed suicide. She leapt off the Hollywood sign on Mount Lee. It is said that Peg Entwistle was also upset over her constantly reducing screen time. It is strange that the next day she received a letter regarding role of a woman who commits suicide.

9. Sylvia Plath:
Sylvia Plath was born in Boston and received higher education from Newnham College. Later she became a critically acclaimed poet and novelist. She was famous for her confessional poetry and more precisely for her works in ‘The Colossus and Other Poems’ and ‘Ariel’. After suffering from a long depression and a hard marital separation, Sylvia Plath committed suicide along with her children. She blocked all the doors and windows with wet clothes, left the gas on and placed her head in the oven.

8. Dipendra Bir Bikram Shah:
Dipendra was a part of royal Nepalese family and also became the king for a short period. After he misbehaved with a few guests at a party, his father told him to leave. Dipendra was taken to his room but later he came back armed with guns, he shot ten people in the party including his mother and father, King Birendra. Thereafter he shot himself in the head and died in a hospital three days later.

Robert Enke was a football player who played for four countries including Barcelona and Benfica as a goalkeeper. He was a successful sportsman who won eight international caps. He was also involved in various animal right campaigns along with her wife. Robert Enke committed suicide by lying in front of a train near Neustadtam Rübenberge. According to Teresa, Robert’s wife, he was suffering from depression and was seeing a psychiatrist. Police recovered a suicide note too, but it was never disclosed to the public. Ian Curtis was an English singer and songwriter for the band Joy Division. It was a critically acclaimed band, still wowed upon. Ian got married to Deborah Woodruff at the age of 19 and she gave birth to a girl called Natalie. In his songs he always wrote about despair and misery. He also suffered from epilepsy and depression which lead him to commit suicide by hanging himself in his kitchen. He was very ambitious but his marriage and his health did not allow him to live up to the expectations of his own life. The life of Ian Curtis has been described both in books and movies highlighting his name as one of the celebrities who committed suicide. Several songs have also been dedicated to him by fans.

5. Jeff Alm:
Jeff Alm, an American football player who studied at University of Notre Dame, committed suicide in 1993. Alm was driving a Cadillac El Dorado on an interstate highway along with a friend when the car lost control on a curve. He fell out through the window while his car fell 30 feet down along with his friend. Jeff Alm was devastated after seeing his best friend’s death and shot himself in the face using a pistol. Later reports revealed a significant amount of alcohol in their blood samples.

Alberto Santos Dumont was an inventor and early aviation pioneer. He was born in Brazil in an affluent family that owned a prospering coffee business. He was keen on science so he went to study in Paris. He showed how flight can be controlled and for the same he received Deutsch de la Meurthe prize. In later stages Alberto Santos Dumont suffered from disseminated sclerosis and disapproved of use of planes in warfare. He hung himself at the age of 59 in Sao Paulo.

3. Elliott Smith:
Elliott Smith was a gifted musician and singer songwriter born in Omaha. With his unique voice, Elliott Smith made several great records and also received Academy Award nomination for ‘Miss Misery’. This celebrity displayed his suicidal tendencies by jumping off a cliff while he was drunk. While he was in Portland he got indulged in substance abuse. One day after having an argument with his girlfriend, he stabbed himself in the chest. After hearing his scream she went to check and found him with a knife in his chest. Elliott died at the age of 34.

Charles Rocket was an American actor who was most noticed in Saturday night live, Hocus Pocus and Dumb and Dumber. He worked in several TV series in his tenure and died on October 7, 2005. His body was found in a field near his home in Connecticut. His throat was slit and it looked like a murder, but after medical examination it was declared a suicide.
