Santa Claus, the fat, jolly man in the suit of red and white that we have all come to associate with Christmas, wasn’t always what St. Nick looked like in mass media.

Sometime in the 1930s, Coca-Cola devised a plan to appropriate the idea of Santa Claus and make him the mascot for all their ad campaigns; changing his attire from the festive green of yore to the red and white of the Coca Cola brand. Santa then went from being a milk-and-cookies man to being a Coke man through and through.
