The incident took place in Sadh Nagar area of Delhi, when Ankit was walking his dog near the railway tracks situated near his house. Distracted by a rodent, the dog ran onto the tracks while a train was speeding their way. Seeing this Ankit quickly tried to pull his pet off the track but was unsuccessful. He then tried to lift the dog off the track but the dog proved out to be too heavy for him.
The train hit Ankit while he was holding the dog by its leash, and dragged him a few meters resulting in injuries to his head and face besides multiple fractures.
While the dog was instantly mauled down by the train, Ankit was quickly rushed to the nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Talking to Times of India
, Ankit’s inconsolable father said that the loss was too much to bear and could not be compensated.
“Our boy has passed away. What’s the use of reporting the incident now? Railways have put no overbridge or boundary wall to stop people from crossing the tracks. We have lost both our son and the pet.”
Ankit is now survived by his parents and two younger siblings.
