BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has expressed his happiness over Jawaharlal Nehru University’s (JNU) decision to rename their central library as ‘BR Ambedkar Library’ after demands for the same was made by BJP’s student wing, ABVP.
Though while expressing his glee on Twitter, Swamy once again made a statement which in time is bound to make waves.
That was a sly suggestion from Swamy, who is known to be BJP’s fireband leader.
This was not the first time that Swamy has made such statements about JNU; he has in the past often pitched for its ‘cleansing.’
What is more, ABVP’s demand has been termed as “ironic” by campus’s left-groups as they believed it was “weird” that “on one hand the government is terrorising students who pursue Ambedkarite politics”, while on the other hand it “is hell bent upon appropriating Ambedkar.”
Swamy had previously demanded that JNU should be shut down
for four months after their final exams in May so as to “fumigate” the hostels by rejecting students who did not swear allegiance to the Indian Constitution. At that time he had also suggested expelling the students who have not graduated from BA courses or gotten their MA degrees in the stipulated time of three years.
