Sushma Swaraj’s Prompt Response Helped US Man Get Visa To Attend Father’s Funeral In India

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has again come to the aid of a man who wanted to attend his father’s last rites in Karnal but the Indian embassy in the US was closed for two days for Dussehra and Muharram.

Sarita Takru, mother US-based Abhai Kaul, requested help from Swaraj through a tweet.

Takru quickly received a response from Swaraj who directed the Indian Embassy in Washington to give a visa to an Indian to attend his father’s last rites despite the mission being closed.

She tweeted:

Soon after Swaraj’s instructions, the Indian Embassy asked Takru to share Kaul’s contact details so that a visa could be granted expeditiously.

Takru had expressed her anguish after knowing that the embassy would be closed today and tomorrow. “…Can’t get Indian visa before Local Thursday. Is this human?”

The External Affairs Minister is known for her prompt response to Indians in distress abroad.
