Televison’s Most Loved Grandmother, Sudha Shivpuri AKA ‘Baa’, Passed Away

The Veteran actress, Sudha Shivpuri, who played the lovable ‘Baa’ in one of India’s longest-running TV shows, ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’, passed away today morning, reports Times of India.

Sudha Shivpuri, who started her career at a very young age to support her ill mother, passed away peacefully in her sleep.




The 79-year old actress had been a part of the television industry for a decade and made a huge contribution to the television industry. She made her film debut in 1977 and did a few films before taking a break and shifting to the small screen.

Sudha did television shows like ‘Missing’, ‘Rishtey’, ‘Sarhadein’ and ‘Bandhan’. She got her big break in 2000 with the role of our lovable ‘Baa’ in ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’.


Sudha Shivpuri married popular actor Om Shivpuri in his struggling days and they both opened a theater company, Dishantar, which went on to become one of Delhi’s pioneer theater groups of its era.
