Five special team comprising 50 officers have been reportedly formed to apprehend underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
According to India Today
, the Centre has formed the teams to investigate and destroy Dawood’s empire across the world. Not much detail is available about the team except that they have officers from Enforcement Directorate, Income Tax Department, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Interpol wing of the CBI. The report reveals that the team will be probing every company associated with the underworld don who has been living in Pakistan ever since he fled India following the 1993 Bombay Bomb Blasts.
This undated photo of Dawood Ibrahim shows him without a moustache and is believed to be one of his latest.
At least 11 of his associates have been identified and the teams will also probe their links to Dawood.
The report also says that the 60-year-old Dawood is unwell and is living in Karachi though his movement is restricted. He reportedly lives in fear of his life and has therefore changed his name to Sheikh Ismail Merchant.
The United Nations had earlier confirmed that six of the nine Pakistani addresses that Indian authorities said belonged to Dawood Ibrahim were correct.
Dawood had previously shifted his base to Muri in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
probably to establish closer links with terrorists. On Thursday, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Dawood in a CBI court and has sent letters to Pakistan, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and United Kingdom (UK) requesting them to share information about Dawood’s Pakistan-based Gutka business.
