Sourav Ganguly has come in support of Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s appointment as India’s Goodwill Ambassador for Rio Olympics 2016 saying that he sees nothing wrong in bringing “glamour quotient” to India’s table for upcoming Olympics.
Though he gave his support to Salman, he also made clear that there can be other ambassadors appointed to the task as well.
Sourav is the latest among personalities to have voiced his opinion on a topic that has divided the sports world.
Beside Ganguly, other sporting personalities to give support to Salman are boxer Mary Kom, shooter Abhinav Bindra, and Indian badminton ace Saina Nehwal among others.
Controversy surrounding Salman being chosen as India’s Olympic Ambassador started soon after wrestler Yogeswar Dutt
and sprinter Milkha Singh
questioned Indian Olympic Association’s (IOA) decision for adding a Bollywood name to Olympics. Salman’s father Salim Khan too entered the debate on Twitter
claiming that Bollywood rescued Milkha Singh from fading into oblivion. He was bitterly criticised for his comments.
