Recently, the US president Barack Obama and his wife Michelle were left awestruck when a nine-year-old Indian American girl served them a ‘garam masala’ Quinoa Burger with ‘raita’, reports Hindustan Times
Shreya from Illinois, who was was invited for the lunch with Michelle Obama at a flower-bedecked table, said:
“I have watched my mom and grandma make all sort of delicious food in the kitchen with an Indian twist since I was born. I have been helping them cook since I was three. I love to mix, measure, chop, and even clean up afterwards.”
The nine-year-old, whose garam masala quinoa burger with raita was chosen as the winning recipe, said:
“My grandma and I came up with this recipe together because we both love sandwiches. The dish was enhanced with garam masala, cumin, ginger and grated serrano chillies. We make this recipe often to take to school for lunch or even on picnics with friends.”
In the fourth annual “Kids’ State Dinner” organised by the White House, Shreya Patel was among 55 other young cooks who were given a red carpet welcome.
The dinner is a competition to create a recipe for a healthy lunch.
