It was a scene of chaos when a protester hurled a shoe at Jawaharlal Nehru University student leader Kanhaiya Kumar while he was addressing a press conference in Hyderabad on March 24.
The protester was in turn attacked by Kanhaiya’s supporters.

“Anti-nationals like Kanhaiya should not be allowed to speak,” the protester shouted before the police took him away. Undeterred with this incident, Kanhaiya said: “Do whatever you want to do, I am not the one to get scared. My way is the Gandhian way.”
On March 23 evening, the police denied entry of Kumar into the Hyderabad Central University campus where he was to address students agitating for the resignation of the vice chancellor for his alleged role in the suicide by Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula.
However, Kumar then delivered a short speech at the university’s main gate. He renewed his commitment to “fight for justice for Rohith” and “exposing the administration’s determination to crush dissent”.
Alleging that educational institutions are under attack, he said (It) has a pre-planned script to destroy autonomy of universities.
“There is an allegation that we are doing politics. Are we doing politics or is the government doing politics?” he asked. Kanhaiya Kumar was granted bail by the Delhi High Court on March 2, nearly three weeks after he was arrested on sedition charges in a case that has led to mass protests and opposition allegations that the government is trying to crush dissent.
