For the first time, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the faithful from Shia and Sunni communities offered Eid prayers together at a congregation at Jamia Millia Islamia, reports Twocircle.net
The extraordinary Shia-Sunni joint prayer event was held at the inner courtyard of the Jama Masjid, Jamia Milia Islamia, is part of the ‘Shoulder to Shoulder Movement’, an initiative conceived by a group of friends in Jamia Nagar in the back- drop of growing hostility between the two sects in West Asia.
One of the organisers said:
“As everyone knows that ISIS is targeting Shias and their mosques in West Asia, which is very painful to see. So our group of friends conceived this idea to organize joint Eid prayers, in which Muslims from both Sunni and Shia sect will participate.”
Another organizer Mazin Khan said:
“The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat too has extended its full support and they are helping us in getting the desired contact persons who can make this initiative a success. We want to deliver a global message that yes, Shia and Sunni live in harmony and brotherhood.”
The prayers was held on Saturday, July 18, in the inner courtyard of Jama Masjid, Jamia Millia Islamia here at 7:30 am.
