UP Elections 2017: With Eye On Brahmin Votes, Congress Names Sheila Dixit As UP CM Candidate

After serving three terms in Delhi as Chief Minister, Congress veteran Sheila Dikshit, 78, has been chosen to be the party’s Chief Ministerial face in the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls due next year.

The party said she was chosen for her experience and good work.

She thanked the party high command and said it is a big responsibility.

She also referred herself as “a bahu (daughter-in-law) of Uttar Pradesh”, and said those who claim she is an outsider to the state are off the mark.

While announcing her name, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that it should not be assumed that Dikshit will stand for election in Uttar Pradesh. He said it was not necessary to content elections to become the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, Dixit will be questioned in the water tanker scam on August 26.

The ACB Joint Commissioner of Police Mukesh Kumar Meenaon on July 14 said: “we’ve issued notice to Sheila Dixit ji for questioning on 26th Aug in connection with Water tanker scam case.”
