Seven Of 10 Accused In Dadri Lynching Case Allegedly Related To Local BJP Leader

A week after a lynch mob killed 50 year old Mohammad Akhlaq for allegedly eating beef, it has been found that seven of the 10 accused caught in connection to the case are related to local BJP leader Sanjay Rana.

NDTV reports that the main accused Vishal Rana is the son of Sanjay Rana and that he was the one who allegedly organised the meeting which led to the attack on Akhlaq family.

Besides Vishal, others found to be related to BJP leader are brothers Vivek and Sachin, who help their father Om Kumar with his electricity appliances repair business.

Brothers Saurabh and Gaurav, who are unemployed and have been looking for jobs, Shivam, who is a second year student in a Medical Lab Technology degree course, and Sandeep, who has just completed school.

Besides these seven, other accused in this case are brothers Shri Om and Hari Om, who work in a private factory and Rupendra, who is a college student.

All the accused are Akhlaq’s neighbours in Bisara village.

Last Monday evening, they were allegedly part of the large mob that attacked Akhlaq and his family after an announcement was made at a local temple claiming that that a calf had been killed by Akhlaq family.

While Akhlaq died on the spot after being repeatedly beaten by a brick, his son was severely injured and is in hospital for past one week battling for his life.

Since last Monday, many political leaders have visited the village, with few even making some controversial statements.

BJP lawmaker Sangeet Som created a controversy when he went to the village and met members of accused culprits’ families and vowed to get bail for them.

What is more Som called the accused innocents and even threatened a “befitting reply if innocents are framed”.
