While it is hard to believe now, there was once a time when India’s Test Captain Virat Kohli’s position in the Indian squad was doubtful, with even the BCCI selectors ready to ignore him thanks to some abysmal performance.
The year was 2012, and India was set to take on Australia for a Test match in Perth.
The selectors were all but decided to drop Kohli from the team when then Test Captain MS Dhoni and former cricketer Virender Sehwag, who was Dohn’s vice-captain at that time, decided to step in back Virat up for the next two Test matches.
You see, at that time Virat was going through a bad patch in his career and had scored just 11 and an duck in the first Test match and then 23 and 9 in the second Test match.
The selectors had thus decided to drop Kohli for Rohit Sharma for the final two Test matches.
The stunning revelation was made by Viru paaji himself who said “We decided that we have to back Virat Kohli, and the rest is history”
You see, in the final two Test match, Virat went on to create history as he scored 44 and 75 runs in the 3rd test match and 116 in the 4th and final Test match.
