Supreme Court today restored the Congress-led Nabam Tuki government to power in Arunachal Pradesh. It quashed all orders given by the state governor.

“SC quashed all notifications of December 9 issued by Arunachal Governor, restored status quo ante as on December 15, 2015,”  said Advocate Vivek Tankha.

Earlier, the governor JP Rajkhowa had advanced the Winter Session of the Assembly without consulting the then chief minister, a move which led to President’s rule in the state.

A five-judge Bench, led by Justice J.S. Khehar, was hearing petition regarding the same.

Congress is now demanding resignation of the governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa and also want Centre to apologise.

Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi said that it is a historic verdict and those who had trampled upon constitutional propriety & democractic norms have been defeated.
