India’s Tennis ace Sania Mirza has parted ways from her doubles partner Martina Hingis.
In the past 16-months, the duo had an astonishing partnership where they reached heights of WTA and won nine doubles titles together.
The unexpected news was announced on August 9 when it was learnt that the duo had decided to part ways with immediate effect. The two had decided to pair up together in March 2015 and their partnership had taken the tennis world by a storm.
The Indo-Swiss pair won three titles on the trot which had taken Mirza to a career high ranking of ‘One’ in doubles ranking.
Their partnership also went on to become world number one in partnership when they won the Charleston Open in 2015. From there on they then went on to win the Wimbledon doubles title, the US Open – 2015 title, and the Australian Open -2016 title. They even stitched together an incredible 41-match winning streak which ended in February this year when they lost to Russian pair Elena Vesnina and Daria Kasatkina.
According to reports, the duo decided to part ways as they had not gotten the desired results in last five months.
It is believed that Sania will now partner world number 21 Barbora Strycova from the Czech Republic, while Martina has decided to team up with Coco Vandeweghe from the US.
