Hours after his appointment, Indian wrester and Olympic medallist Yogeswar Dutt took to Twitter to express his displeasure about the step.

Though Dutt was initially criticized by many for what he said, he soon got support form other sports personalities including the ‘Flying Sikh’ Milkha Singh, and Indian Hockey legend Dhanraj Pillay.

While Milkha demanded that the unprecedented appointment should be “revised”, Pillay seconded saying that an Indian sports personality would have been a better choice.

Even India’s only individual Olympic gold-medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra came in support of IOA’s decision and congratulated Salman for the same.

Looking at the controversy generated by its decision, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) sent out a statement both justifying their decision and stating that they were more than willing to include sporting personalities like PT Usha and Anju Boby George for promoting Olympics in India.
