Rio Olympics: Indian Archers Start On Positive Note, Atanu Das In Top 5 Ranking In Individual Events

Even before the Rio Olympics 2016 officially began with its opening ceremony. Archery teams along with India’s men’s and women’s team have set out on the quest to make an early impression at team and individual ranking rounds.

Archers began their quest at Rio’s Sambodromo, and are set to miss the opening ceremony which will take place later in the day.

Till final update India’s Atanu Das had finished an impressive fifth with a combined score of 683 in the men’s individual ranking and will now take part in elimination round on August 8.

In India’s women’s contingent meanwhile there was disappointment as former World No 1 Deepika Kumari, finished 20th, with score of 640, Bombayla Devi finished 24th with a score of 638 and Laxmirani Majhi finished 43rd with a score of 613.

Their elimination round is scheduled to place on August 7.

All eyes are not set on India’s women’s team event where Deepika and team would be looking better their 7th ranking performance and to finish in top top three to secure India its first Olympic medal in Archery.

India’s women’s team have a higher chance of winning a medal as they are currently ranked 4 in world rankings.


Elimination round for archery begin on August 7.
