Cyclonic Winds Bypass Indian Coast; Heavy Rainfall Expected In Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh

Cyclonic winds have bypassed the Indian coast and have moved towards Bangladesh today. But, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal will receive heavy rains.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a depression over southwest Bay of Bengal has moved to 90 km east of Chennai and 70 km of the coast.

On May 18, the Met Department also issued a cyclone alert for north Tamil Nadu and south coastal Andhra Pradesh for the next two days.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along the Tamil Nadu coast and people have been asked people to stay indoors.

Chennai is already experiencing the heaviest rainfall in the last five years. A call centre has been set up by the state government to address rain-related grievances.

Last year,  Tamil Nadu’s flood caused massive damage. “For all kinds of rain related grievances, the Control Room No 1070 may be contacted,”said an official release from the Commissioner of Revenue Administration.
