Minutes after Indian shuttler PV Sindhu made history by entering Rio Olympics Badminton final, shooter Abhinav Bindra sent out a tweet that not only wished Sindhu the best but also showed how long it has been since India won Gold at the prestigious event.
Bindra is India’s only Olympic gold medalist in an individual sports event and had won the honor back in 2008.
Soon after her semi-final match, Sindhu met ESPN senior editor Gaurav Kalra for an interview and was shown what Bindra had tweeted about her.
Honoured by Bindra’s tweet, Sindhu went on to assure Kalra not only would she go all out to make Bindra’s wish come true, but also play the best that she can to get India that elusive Gold medal.
Sindhu on August 18 had stormed into the finals of the women’s singles badminton event and became first ever Indian to achieve this feat. She is now set to take on world number one Carolina Marin for the Olympic gold medal.
