Indian shuttler PV Sindhu on August 19 lost Olympic gold medal match to Spain’s Carolina Marin in a closely contested match.
When Indian badminton player PV Sindhu walked into the court, India was glued to its TV sets so as to watch history being created.
While there was high expectations from Sindhu, match against World Number One Carolina Marin was never going to be easy.
Marin dominated the match from the word go and took an early lead in the first game.
No letting Sindhu settle, by mid game Sindhu was struggling to keep up with Marin’s relentless smashes.
But not letting the gold medal go that easily Sindhu made a great come back and won the first game 21-19 from behind.
Not daunted by the loss of first game, Marin continued her attacking play and took the second game with a dominating score of 12-21.
The third game was full of grit with both Marin and Sindhu going all out point by point. When the final game went for a mid-game break, the scores were 10-11 with Sindhu trailing by a point.
With just 10 points from medal win, Marin again went into an attack and quickly took 4 points lead.
While Sindhu tried to make a comeback, it was not to be and she lost the game 21-15.
