Government Removes Police Horse Shaktiman’s Statue Following Protest

Police horse Shaktiman’s statue was removed after protest over tribute being paid to the horse while there was no memorial for dead soldiers in Dehradun.

Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat, who refused to unveil the statue, said, “I leave it for the next government to decide if this statue needs to be here or not.”

However, the second statue, which was installed at police headquarters, is still there.

Though the future of the statue is uncertain.

Earlier this year, the 14-year-old horse was deployed by the police during a BJP rally, during which MP Ganesh Joshi had allegedly attacked the horse’s leg with a baton, critically injuring the animal. There was outrage over the incident and Joshi was briefly arrested. The horse succumbed to his injuries.
