West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s animosity with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is well known in political corridors.
When PM Modi visited Bengal to inaugurate a central government scheme for final inclusion, she was also present.
In her speech she started with her usual “political activism” and complained about Indian banking system and how the poor is suffering because of it.
She questioned the Prime Minister how are these bank schemes (referring to Atal Pension Yojana) are going to work is there was absence of banks in the villages.
“In Bengal, even now also after so many years of our independence the reality is that out of 3500 panchayats there are no banks in more than 1000 panchayats. Gram panchayats must be covered with banking facilities.”
