Prime Minister Narendra Modi. came down heavily on the perpetrators of violence on dalits and said “If you want to attack, attack me, not dalits. If you want to shoot, shoot me”. The statement was made on August 7 while the PM was addressing a party meet in Hyderabad.
Breaking his silence over the recent attacks on dalits, PM Modi also condemned the people who are playing politics over it.
The Modi’s government in recent past had drawn a lot of flak over number of attacks that have been taking place against the dalit community.
His choice of speaking about the issue in Hyderabad also played a significant role and as its the same city where Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula had committed suicide last year.
His suicide had created a lot of stir in the campus as well as the country.
PM Modi was upset over the numerous incidents of violence against the Dalits and reminded people of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the entire world is a family) ideology. He said:
