Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thanked all parties for speaking in “one voice” over the recent developments in Kashmir.

Kashmir Valley has been on the boil for over the past ten days after Indian security forces killed 22-year-old Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani on July 8. Hundreds of people protested against his killing and agitated as they pelted stones to show their anger and injure the police. The cycle of violence has left more than 41 people dead and more than 3,500 injured.
The region has already been placed under curfew and mobile internet services have been suspended.
“We represent both the people and the parties and there is a need to keep national interests above anything else,” the prime minister said.
At an all-party meeting was called by the government on July 17, where issues like the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir and terrorism were raised. During the meet, PM Modi welcomed remarks by Ghulam Nabi Azad, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, who said no issue was more topical today than that of Kashmir.
