One of the thousand odd houses that would be soon torn down in Bengaluru belongs to Lieutenant Colonel Niranjan Kumar, who is an Army Martyr.
Lt. Col. Kumar was one of the seven army men that were killed in Pathankot earlier this year, when the Air Base was attacked by militants in January 2016.
His home is one of the 1,100 houses which would be demolished in the next four months so as to make way for a storm water drains.
His family is devastated by the development and says that a soldier who died for the country deserves more consideration.
Meanwhile, the officials who are set to demolish the house say it is necessary as setting up of these drains as it would save the city from the sort of flooding it saw recently
. The officials further added that though the family has their sympathies, sparing one home was really not an option.
Lt. Col. Kumar was a bomb disposal expert and had died on January 2 while defusing a grenade during the attack.
Over the last three days, over 100 encroachment houses have been razed in Bengaluru so as to clear outlets for rain water.
