Indian para-swimmer Niranjan Mukundan recently re-created history at the IWAS (International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports) U-23 World Games, when he won as many as eight medals at the prestigious competition.
At IWAS, Niranjan won three gold, two silver and three bronze medals.
Though, it was gallant effort, Niranjan was not able to break his own record from last year, when he had won 10 medals at the same event.
Niranjan hails from Bengaluru and was born with a hereditary medical condition known as Spina Bifilda or clubbed feet.
In any manner, he does not let his deformity define him and he competes in almost all the swimming events in the S-8 category.
He is backed by GO Sports Foundation, and is currently training under renowned swimming coach John Christopher.
After winning 8 medals at IWAS, Niranjan said
He is now targeting to get gold at the Paralympics later this year.
