Cricket legend and India’s goodwill ambassador for Olympics 2016 Sachin Tendulkar was seen in Rio ahead of the opening ceremony that took place at the famous Maracana stadium.
Tendulkar reached Rio on August 4, along with IOC’s new member Nita Ambani and would be cheering for the team in the ongoing Olympic Games.
Sachin was also invited by International Olympic Committee (IOC) president, Thomas Bach, to be the goodwill ambassador for this segment of Olympics.
Sachin not only accepted IOC’s invitation but had also written an encouraging letter to Indian Olympic Association (IOA) expressing his pleasure.
Meanwhile the biggest Indian Olympic contingent of 119 members were led by Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra during the opening ceremony.
Bindra, who is competing in his last Olympic games has represented India in five Olympics. He and the Indian team received a rousing cheer from the capacity crowd at Maracana.
