Nitish Kumar Rewards Bihar Poll Strategist Prashant Kishor With Cabinet Minister Rank

The Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government has appointed Prasant Kishor, as his advisor. He will now be given a cabinet rank in the state government.

He will give his advice to the chief minister on development polices and their execution.

37-year-old Prashant Kishor is a man with the Midas touch. He had helped the Mahagathbandhan of the JD(U), the RJD and the Congress to trounce the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar assembly polls last year. The three-party alliance won more than 170 seats.

Kishor, a master strategist, had successfully led the strategy to project Narendtra Modi as the face of good governance in the 2012 Gujarat polls and last year’s general elections.

Later on, he switched over to Nitish Kumar’s side in the run up to Bihar assembly elections and successfully managed his poll campaign.

Known as the man of technology and strategy in political circles, he proved all those political pundits wrong who were predicting the victory of BJP.

Kishor heads Indian Political Action Committee, led by a young team of technocrats.

Kishor, a native of Buxar in Bihar, quit a UN health expert’s job in Africa in 2011 and returned to India to form a group of young professionals.

Media reports suggest that Kishor will run the election campaign for Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh. However, he maintained that it should be clear that he will be strategizing and running poll campaign for Amarinder and not for the Congress.

The strategist is expected to visit Punjab for two to three days in mid-February for an early assessment.

It was also reported that West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has also approached him for helping her party in assembly elections which will be conducted this year in the month of November.

After the first phase of elections in Bihar, he had said that he would quit this profession if he was not successful and would do something else. He sounded very buoyant and confident about the success and prospects of the Mahagathbandan. He never let down his confidence throughout the elections.

Despite criticism of Kishor from many quarters even from the JD(U), Nitish also put his faith on him and said, “Prashant Kishor is from Bihar and he wants to do something for it.”

Prasant Kishor – is the kingmaker, first for Prime Minister NarendraModi, and then for Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar. But it remains to be seen whether will be able to change the fortunes of Capt. Amarinder Singh, chief ministerial candidate for Congress party in Punjab.
