Nimrat Kaur has made quite a name for herself for the unique roles she picks and the way she breathes life into the characters she plays. And now this “army brat” is all to portray the role of the first Indian woman soldier to be inducted into combat.
She’ll be playing the lead character in Ekta Kapoor’s foray into digital entertainment — her first web series. The series will be directed by Nagesh Kukunoor — the man who has given us exceptional films like ‘Iqbal’, ‘Dor’, ‘3 Deewarein’, and most recently, ‘Dhanak’.
When asked about the role, Nimrat has this to say,
Unconventional projects interest me. After Homeland (US TV series), I was keen to do a show that pushes me as an actor. The story is set against the backdrop of the Indian Army and since I come from a defence background, I got hooked instantly. What’s exciting about partnering with Ekta is the common belief that we need to shake up digital entertainment with power-packed, strong and brave original content.
Nagesh Kukunoor, on his part, says,
The digital revolution in India will be huge. Ekta and I have decided to partner on an exciting show, as she forays into the digital space. I’m excited because I’ve never ventured into this genre, and that too, on a digital platform.
As web series become the next big thing, B-town biggies are starting to explore the medium as a platform for creative expression.
It’ll be interesting to watch the Queen of Soap Operas collaborate with the guy who has only ever done offbeat cinema. Throw an actor like Nimrat into the mix, and the whole thing starts looking very promising. Good luck, all!
