Neeraj Pandey, Director Of ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’, Is Not A Dhoni Fan But Why?

M.S Dhoni is one of the most successful Indian captains and his immense contribution to the game of cricket is known to all. But, beyond his helicopter shots, sheer calmness, and mindful captaincy, we don’t know much about him personally. And now, fortunately, his journey in becoming a cricketer will unfold in Neeraj Pandey’s biopic, portraying his hardships and his personality.

Most of us assumed that Neeraj Pandey would be a huge fan of Dhoni and probably that incited him to direct a film on his life but we were so wrong. In a recent interview with Indian Express, he stated:

“I am not a fan of Dhoni. I like AB De Villers and Sachin Tendulkar. But I am not a fan of these players as well. Dhoni also knows that I am not his fan.”

Yes. It’s a bit surprising and strange to know this. But, we couldn’t agree more when he justified his stand. He continued:

“To put things in perspective, had I been a fan of Dhoni, I wouldn’t have been able to direct the movie in an unbiased fashion. Because I am not a fan, I could remain objective.”

What an insightful reply!

Also, in the teaser, we see Dhoni taking a dig at three senior players that are rumoured to be Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, and V.V.S. Laxman. Dismissing all rumours, Neeraj Pandey clarified:

“I absolutely have no idea what you are talking about as to who these cricketers are in the first place. But I assure you that the film does not intend to hurt anyone. It is not made in that spirit. It is made in a very sportsman like spirit so we are not running anyone down and we are not taking pot shots on anyone. Lastly, there is a logical explanation for any decision.”

Sushant Singh Rajput was always Neeraj’s first choice to play Dhoni because he comes from the same place as that of Dhoni and is a good reader of the game of cricket.
