A report in The Tribune suggest that in the wee hours of February 22, vehicles with women passengers going through NH1 were reportedly stopped near Murthal and dragged out into the nearby fields and raped.
Though the police called it a rumour, eyewitness account, as per the report, suggests that at least 10 women were sexually assaulted.
What was even more shocking that district officials, who arrived at the scene, told the victims of the families to not report the matter to anyone “for the sake of their honor.”
The report said 30-odd goons were involved in attacking the commuters going towards the National Capital Region (NCR).
The anti-social people set their vehicles on fire. While most ran for shelter, some women folks could not flee. “They were pulled out, stripped and raped,” the report adds.
The victims were provided clothes and blankets by villagers of Hassanpur and Kurad.
The women were united with their families at Amrik Sukhdev Dhaba, according to an eyewitness. And instead of investigating the matter, district officials, persuaded the families to take the women home.
