India’s Man In Jammu And Kashmir Is No More

Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away on this morning after brief illness in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.

Sayeed was taken  to AIIMS on December 24 when he developed some health complications after he toured Srinagar city.

He was admitted with acute pneumonia and respiratory infection.

President Pranab Mukherjee expressed profound sorrow over the demise of Sayeed.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the demise of Mufti Sayeed is an irreparable loss to Jammu and Kashmir. His departure has also left a big void in national politics.

He said he was known for his love for common people, specially the underprivileged. Sayeed had a wonderful understanding of complex issues pertaining to J&K. He wanted to bring permanent peace to the valley.

Many PDP leaders when contacted by this reporter yesterday said that his chances of survival were very bleak.  They also said that that his daughter Mehooba Mufti will be elevated as chief minster of the state.

But it was said that Mehooba Mufti was upset with the ill health of his father and doesn’t want to replace as it was it was very emotional and painful for her to replace his father.

Earlier, Peope’s Democratic Party Spokesperson said that cadres of the party, leaders and even New Delhi wants Mehooba Mufti to be chief minister but as it was difficult for her to replace his father.

Sayeed was sworn as chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir on March 2015. It was for the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir that any regional party has joined BJP to form the government in the state.

The J&K government has declared a seven-day mourning in the state.

According to transport minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Abdul Ghani Kohli, the last rites of  Sayeed will take place today in Bijbehara in South Kashmir.

According to sources, it has not been decided when Mehooba Mufti, will take as chief minister  of the state. They said for the next four days they mourn the death of their leader and later on any decision will be taken in this regard.

A PDP leader said that around 4 pm, the body of Sayeed will reach to his ancestral home in Bijbehara and the process of performing the last rites will take place and he will be buried in his family’s ancestral graveyard.


Sayeed was a hardcore nationalist whom New Delhi always trusted more than regional leader of the state. The man who called for ‘Healing Touch’ when he formed government in 2002 with Congress.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed also firm faith in his leadership. Sayeed recently called  supported Prime Minister when he was facing criticism on the issue of intolerance in the country.

He said recently that  Prime Minister is not a communal. Sayeed is also said  that there is no alternative to Modi and he will be Prime Minister for next 10 years.
