For the second time since he formed the government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reshuffle his Cabinet at 11 am on Tuesday, July 5.
Reports say that Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal and MoS Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbabs Naqvi will get promotions.
Another name doing the rounds for an elevation is Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s. It should be noted that Piyush Goyal, who is an MoS rank minister, has been widely praised for his phenomenal work on improving the power condition of the country and taking forward the government’s renewable energy plans.
MoS Power, Piyush Goyal might get a promotion.
Though the plans are highly privy to the PM, reports say
that some ministers might be dropped based on their performance in the last two years.
At the same time, Hindustan Times reports
that Modi is looking to form a younger Cabinet and, therefore, Minority Affairs Minister Najma Heptulla, who is 76, and Small and Medium Enterprises minister Kalraj Mishra, 75, could be dropped.
A few days ago, the PM reviewed the work of the Cabinet ministers. Modi also consulted BJP chief Amit Shah, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for a decision on the reshuffle. The names will be finalised at a meeting of BJP’s top leadership at the party headquarters in New Delhi today. The reshuffle comes ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab. It is, therefore, likely that some new faces from the states join the Cabinet.
Portfolios of the Cabinet Committee on Security – Defence, Home, External Affairs and Finance – will reportedly remain unchanged.
PM Modi had last expanded his Cabinet in November 2014. After the second reshuffle, the PM will embark on a four-nation Africa tour on July 7.
