Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had earlier asked citizens to send #Sandesh2soldiers on Diwali, met jawans from ITBP and other battalions at Himachal Pradesh.

“Made unscheduled stop at Chango village, close to Somdu, to wish people on Diwali. Was deeply touched by the impromptu reception & their joy. Spent time with our courageous @ITBP_official & Army Jawans at Sumdo, Kinnaur district, Himachal Pradesh. Jai Jawan! Jai Hind!,” Prime Minister tweeted.

On his radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Modi showered praise on the armed forces guarding the nation and dedicated this year’s Diwali to the jawans.

The Prime Minister said,” I dedicate this Diwali to our soldiers. #Sandesh2Soldiers hashtag was used so much by everyone and we were flooded with well wishes and love for jawans from citizens. Be it BSF, CRPF etc, our jawans are on duty and guarding us; that is why we are celebrating Diwali joyfully.”

He added that prominent celebrities like film actors Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar as well as several Union Ministers have sent messages.

Jawans also raised ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ slogans along with the Prime Minister.

Highlighting the message of Diwali, PM Modi called on the countrymen to let go of their conservative thinking and advocated gender equality.

He also added that on October 31, the nation will celebrate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary. “He worked to bring everyone together, he worked for unity, fought for unity and brought unity amongst people,” PM said.
