First Weekend At The Box Office And ‘Mirzya’ Sinks Like The Titanic

In a completely predictable turn of events, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ‘Mirzya’ bombed at the box office, becoming the biggest disaster to hit theaters in 2016.

Even the great wordsmith, Gulzar, couldn’t save this particular movie from falling flat on its face. The reviews are abysmal and the only tiny pinprick of hope seems to be that the sets are being appreciated. Imagine that! How bad does a movie have to be for its sets, its sets, to be appreciated?!!

It just goes to show you, you can pretend to pull off the classic ‘Titanic’ pose on a motorcycle, but that won’t save your movie from sinking just like the Titanic did!

Maybe India is finally done with movies about rebirth and such like. The only rebirth movie that’s worked in the past twenty-odd years is ‘Om Shanti Om’, and it had SRK. ‘Mirzya’ had two newbies and a terrible story line. It was never going to work. And now it looks like it will not recover production cost and will go on to become the biggest flop of the year. Tsk tsk! Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra should’ve stopped making movies after ‘Rang De Basanti.

The actors should take heart. They’ve got connections. There will be other offers. We haven’t seen the last of Harshvardhan and Saiyami yet!
