Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza on August 21 won Cincinnati Masters finals along with new partner Barbora Strycova.
While the feat showed that Mirza is back to her winning ways, the victory it seemed to have an ironic twist as the victory seems to come against Mirza’s former partner Martina Hingis and her new partner Coco Vandeweghe.
Mirza and Hingis had decided to part ways during the recently concluded Olympics Games.
Mirza’s 7-5, 6-4 straight set victory over the Swiss-American duo not only ensured her of the Cincinnati Masters title but also made her sole number one doubles player in WTA ranking (was held by both Mirza and Hingis till now).
Cincinnati title victory also brings Mirza’s season title tally to six while overall it’s her 38th doubles title victory.
The win will also come as a soother to the Olympic defeat that Mirza faced few days back.
She along with mixed doubles partner Rohan Bopanna had lost the Olympic medal in the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles game. The Olympic loss had personally pained Mirza a lot.
