Militants Storm Army Battalion Headquarters In J&K’s Uri, 17 Soldiers Killed

Militants, said to be from fidayeen or a suicide squad, attacked an army camp in Uri, Baramulla in north Kashmir on September 18 morning.



At least four terrorists are believed to have attacked the 12th brigade headquarters in Uri. Intense gunbattle and explosions could be heard at the spot.

According to an Army spokesperson, all the four terrorists have been gunned down.

During the attacks, seventeen Indian soldiers were killed, senior Jammu and Kashmir police official confirmed.

The attack took place at 5.30 am in the morning as militants entered the camp by breaching the perimeter fence.

The camp is on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway in the Baramulla district.

Army’s Special Forces had been airdropped in Uri at the spot of the encounter.



Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has postponed a visit to Russia and the US that was to have started on September 18.
