One personnel of the paramilitary forces died and eight others were injured following an attack on their motorcade in Zakura area on the outskirts of Srinagar. An official told PTI that one jawan of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) was killed and eight others including a policeman were injured in the attack. The injured have been admitted to the hospital.
It is reported that the militants fired at the vehicles which were ferrying the personnel to their camp.
They returning to the camp after performing their duties in the city. According to ANI, “The jawans fired back at the militants but couldn’t fire aggressivley owing to the civilian population.”

Soon after the attack, the security forces cordoned off the area and launched search operations to track down the militants. Further, the area may pose extra challenge for the security forces in neutralising the attackers. It is also home to a Bhabha Atomic Research Centre facility. However, it is also said that militants may have escaped.
This is the first militant attack in the city since the encounter at Nowhatta on August 15 in which a CRPF commandant was killed and nine other personnel were injured.
